I was able to attend a media segment with my yoga client. She shared heart friendly yoga poses on Valentine's Day. I am thankful to be able to spread the message about the beautiful benefits of yoga!
Here is the segment on Fox Good Day.

What children’s books teach us about PR
I thought this was cute.
What Children's books teach us about PR by Julai Whipple
She mentions “The Monster At The End of This Book,” by Jon Stone - which I have read.
PR Lesson: Be fearless. Go forth. Identify people you’re afraid to talk to, and do it. Nobody is “out of your league.”
Reminds me of media pitching. It can be intimidating at times! Thanks for the encouragement Julai!
Julia goes on...Who do you really want to work with? Contact them today. It’s not that you’ll never be scared when you break new career ground; but if you’re not at least a little bit scared, it’s probably not worth doing. Whatever you do, keep turning new pages. If you’re brave, you can handle whatever comes next.
Here's the full article.

Scientists seek next wave in power generation
I love working from home! I live in Dallas.
My client is based in Colorado Springs and was doing research in Houston.
So I pitched the Houston Chronicle and they wrote a story!

Newspaper Nails

If a PR person is in the midst of pitching a client to reporters and newspapers, perhaps these nails will be good inspiration.
Here a tutorial on how to do it.

5 important tips for pitching journalists by phone
I found this helpful article at the blog for the Publicity Hound.
I ALWAYS practice tip number 2. Reporter's seem to appreciate it and will tell me to email instead or call back in an hour or so.
2. Be considerate of the reporter’s time. As soon as Karen answers the phone, ask, “Hi Karen, this is Joan Stewart and I have a story idea for you. Is this a good time to talk?” If not, she will say so. Ask her when you should return the call.

Have a story idea you think is news worthy?
As a public relations freelancer, I often work on a project basis.
I have helped numerous companies secure stories on TV and/or in print media for less than $500.
A recent project was to help Fairhill School in Dallas. Their Spanish teacher has helped students with learning differences become confident and proficient in Spanish by performing a Shakespeare production in Spanish.
For this project, I secured two TV placements including NBC evening news as well as a full feature in the Dallas Morning News.
Do you have a story idea? I'd love to hear it! I can then think about which reporters and producer to contact, write the pitch materials, distribute them and follow up. I will also conduct some media training for you to run through the interview and help you practice.
Publicity is a very effective way to get your message across to your target market. And it's far more affordable than traditional advertising!

What's your good news?
Do you subscribe to the free eNewsletter from the Publicity Hound? I recommend it for all publicists.
In last week’s eNewsletter, Joan Stewart said TV news producers are also sick of all the bad news.
She quotes her friend, TV producer Shawne Duperon, “TV people are sick of all the gloom and doom."
Joan encourages companies and publicists to pitch good news.
How about it?
What’s your good news story I can pitch to the media. Dallas, your local community or even to national news outlets.
Do you sell or make a product that’s doing well in this economy?
Have you creatively cut costs so that you don’t have to let any employees go?
How are you motivating your employees during this recession?
Do you have a product that can help folks ease their stress during these difficult times?
Are there any communities rallying together and helping themselves?
Do you have a story that will inspire viewers?
Let me hear your story! I’d love to pitch some good news. Contact me at lori at lbpublicrelations dot com.

Keep on pitching...
"There is a reporter for every story. It might not be the reporter or the publication that you would dream of enticing, but there will be reporter somewhere who is interested."
This quote is very inspirational for me as a publicist. As the book points out, even experienced story pitchers hear "no" frequently.
When I'm plowing through my media lists, studying and commenting on reporters' stories, I like to keep this quote in mind. It keeps me going until I find a reporter (or 2 or 3!) for my clients' stories.
"There is a reporter for every story...." Keep on pitching....
